Coolamon Rotary Bulletin for Week of July 7th 2024
Meeting of Monday 1st July 2024
Tonight we held our annual change over dinner. The baton was handed over to President Adrian Lindner from IPP John Bond.
MC Daryl Breust got proceedings under way at 7.00pm and we had four apologies being PDG Fred and Rae Loneragan, who was ill. Leslie and Paul Weston who are in Europe attending three conferences.
Past Area Governor Garth Perkin made a very interesting and thought provoking welcome to country. Garth consulted with a Wiradjuri Elder from Narrandera, Michael Lyons, on what should be said at such a meeting. Well done Garth.
Our local Anglican Priest and fellow Rotarian Scott Mudd proposed the toast to our partners.
We had the pleasure of the District Governor attending this year’s changeover dinner DG Rob Uhl. DG Rob came all the way from Moss Vale when PDG Fred Loneragan could not make it due to illness.
We had 63 guests, members, partners and visiting Rotarians attend last night’s meeting. As with all change over dinners it went very well. DG Rob Uhl remarked on what a vibrant Rotary club we have in Coolamon.
Our guests included our Coolamon Shire Mayor Dave McCann OAM. Dave proposed the toast to Rotary International and DG Rob responded to the kind words spoken by our Mayor.
As always an excellent Chinese meal followed by the induction of Adrian Lindner as our President for 2024-2025 by outgoing President John Bond. We did manage to get a few renditions of Advance Australia Fair!!!!
President Adrian then introduced his board of directors for the upcoming year. So good to see some new faces taking on board positions. Adrian outlined his goals for our club for the year ahead and I am sure that we will achieve these goals with his leadership.
We had visitors from Junee, Wagga Wagga Sunrise and some special guests being Claire Munro and 4 of her family. Neil Munro would have enjoyed the evening with a tribute played for Neil by our local cellist Bondy.
Our Master of Ceremonies Daryl Breust did a superb job of keeping the meeting to time and a most enjoyable evening was had by all who attended with plenty of fellowship and friendship.

Having a chat with our DG Rob last night, it looks like Rob is organising a wonderful D9705 Conference to be held in Mittagong from the 25th to the 27th October at the Mittagong RSL. We need to support our DG and book now on the following website:

One of the highlights will be DG Michael Lapina, a treat indeed. Yes Michael the current D9800 District Governor, and I heard him sing at the Zone 8 Conference in Canberra. Michael and Heather McInally also had the Singapore Convention delegates give them a 6 minute standing ovation following their duet. As you know Heather is the wife of Past RI President Gordon McInally.

President Stephanie Urchick is ready to lead Rotary toward another winning season:
It’s a frigid January night, the second in a row to dip below zero degrees Fahrenheit in Chicago.
Schools are closed, events canceled, flights grounded. Outside an arctic blast is howling, but inside Stephanie Urchick’s condo, the party is sizzling.
Urchick wears jeans and a Pittsburgh Steelers T-shirt with a “Magic of Rotary” pin affixed. Draped over one of her shoulders is a “Terrible Towel,” an iconic yellow dish towel-size piece of fabric that stalwart fans of the American football team wave to rally their team. The occasional cheer or groan punctuates the party’s chatter…………….
Urchick grew up here in western Pennsylvania, near the border of West Virginia, a countryside of forests and farms in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Both her maternal and paternal grandparents moved here from Eastern Europe (Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine), settling down to take advantage of the jobs in the region’s coal mines and steel mills. When she arrived in the United States, her mother knew one sentence: “Give me some potatoes.”
