COOLAMON ROTARY CLUB SOCIAL MEETING
Monday January 19th 2016
Tonight we had our first meeting back for 2026. It was a social night with the Lions of Coolamon. We thanks Bear and Gary for cooking and for Mary for the pavlova.
There was a good turn out of Rotarians and partners alongside our mates in Lions. A good night of fellowship and friendships was had.
Here are some photos from the evening:
Before the meeting some of us met up with The Hon. Steph Cooke MP, MLA at the Bottom Pub. Mary wrote this report:
Steph and her assistant I think Megan meet us at the Cheese factory. They only had half an hour however we got through a lot.
We discussed what was going on in relation to gambling and domestic violence Steph understands the impact that this is having on communities and that it is a big problem. She will bring this up again with her colleagues. The problem with gambling is that the state government is reliant on the revenue it brings. They need to find a different source of income to take all this problem head on.
The change in gun laws and impact on local farmers and sports shooters.
Also, what was happening with rabbit control? There is not much funding available for the whole state for vermin control. Local land services are doing baiting programmes for rabbits. However more research needs to be done.
What grants were available for local community? Her office will send details on what grants we have received. It may help us to apply for additional grants
Steph is dedicated to helping the community and we can always send her a message if we have any questions or need assistance.

2. END POLIO NOW
Thanks to DG Robert Shore for this story.
It’s been 15 years since India’s last child was diagnosed with wild polio. India’s journey from 60% of the world’s cases to zero showed the world that polio eradication is possible with strong government leadership, community engagement, and the dedicated efforts of health workers.
As we honour this milestone, we also look ahead: the world is so close to eradicating polio everywhere, and continued commitment is essential to protect every child. Together, we can End Polio.

3. BUSH FIRES NEED FOR FEED
It’s times like this when us Aussies come together to support each other, dig deep when the chips are down and our backs to the wall and all of that stuff to take care of those who need our help.
It’s that Aussie ethos and community spirit that made this country great and continues to make it great.
How do you plan on spending your Australia Day Long Weekend this year?
What could be better than spending it with a bunch of like minded guys and girls doing what really makes our country great, the way we all pitch in to help our mates in need?
Do you have a truck and trailer and have a few days to spare helping out?
We’ll find you a load of hay, and fuel and running costs for trucks, meals and drinks for crew are covered.
It won’t be one big hay run or even necessarily all on the one day, we will be trying to get to every fire on the one weekend.
You can also let us know if you’re available between now and then for other pick up and deliveries in the comments section at the bottom of the registration form.
For others who want to help, if you have a ute and trailer or even car and trailer we can find you something meaningful to do.
