One of the best parts of being a Rotarian is that you are always welcome in any club in any country or in your own country. This week we traveled to Perth and made up the meeting with the Rotary Club of Fremantle. One of the traditions is to exchange our respective club banners as a reminder of our visit.
The hospitality received on visiting another Rotary club is always exceptional and one immediately feels like part of the family. The Rotary Club of Fremantle is no exception, a good club with a good mix of members and they are doing some wonderful work in the community of Fremantle.
Just a reminder that this Saturday is World AIDS Day 2012. We have sent out our lunch bag for everyone to support the lunch money on World AIDS Day 2012. So far we have received around $1,550. Thank you to all who have contributed so far.
If you did not receive a lunch bag you can go directly to our web site and donate on line:
The funds raised will be going to Nairobi and Hout Bay in support of our projects there.
Thank You.

In Hyderabad, India, my wife Kyoko and I looked on as local Rotarians donated 500 tricycles to people with physical disabilities caused mainly by polio. Rotary projects that benefit the less fortunate are at the heart of Rotary’s humanitarian mission.
I’m writing you this letter to tell you that I’m leaving you forever. I’ve been a good man to you for 7 years & I have nothing to show for it. These last 2 weeks have been hell. … Your boss called to tell me that you quit your job today & that was the last straw. Last week, you came home & didn’t even notice I had a new haircut, had cooked your favorite meal & even wore a brand new pair of silk boxers. You ate in 2 minutes, & went straight to sleep after watching all of your soaps. You don’t tell me you love me anymore; you don’t want sex or anything that connects us as husband & wife. Either you’re cheating on me or you don’t love me anymore; whatever the case, I’m gone.
Your EX-Husband
P.S. don’t try to find me. Your SISTER & I are moving away to Tasmania together! Have a great life!
Dear Ex-Husband
Nothing has made my day more than receiving your letter. It’s true you & I have been married for 7 years, although a good man is a far cry from what you’ve been. I watch my soaps so much because they drown out your constant whining & griping Too bad that doesn’t work. I DID notice when you got a hair cut last week, but the 1st thing that came to mind was ‘You look just like a girl!’ Since my mother raised me not to say anything if you can’t say something nice, I didn’t comment. And when you cooked my favorite meal, you must have gotten me confused with MY SISTER, because I stopped eating pork 7 years ago. About those new silk boxers: I turned away from you because the $49.99 price tag was still on them, & I prayed it was a coincidence that my sister had just borrowed $50 from me that morning. After all of this, I still loved you & felt we could work it out. So when I hit the lotto for 10 million dollars, I quit my job & bought us 2 tickets to Jamaica But when I got home you were gone.. Everything happens for a reason, I guess. I hope you have the fulfilling life you always wanted. My lawyer said that the letter you wrote ensures you won’t get a penny from me. So take care.
Signed, Your Ex-Wife, Rich As Hell & Free!
P.S. I don’t know if I ever told you this, but my sister Carla was born Carl. I hope that’s not a problem.

Back from my trip to the US, a bit tired, but very satisfied. I accomplished all I had hoped to, and saw everyone on my list. Attached is a picture of me exchanging banners with Shelly Bullock, president of the Rotary Club of Trumansburg, NY. Their club is a similar size to ours, but a bit more diverse in age range (the oldest is in their 60s, and the youngest is in their 30s, I reckon.
Monday night was a quiet social night and we had dinner at the Coolamon Hotel.
We discussed many and varied subjects but uppermost was how do we attract new members to our club.
Most important is to all help in one way or the other on our Market Day coming up this Sunday. There are over 30 stalls booked and it should be a sunny but hot day.
We confirmed that our Christmas Party will be held on Friday 21st December at President Paul and Leslie’s home.

Several of us at Coolamon and fellow travelers to Africa met and knew Mick a gentleman with a great sense of humour. All of us here in Coolamon send our condolences to Anne and his family alongside his family in Rotary. I know that Hout Bay will miss him greatly,

Aussie Driver
An Aussie couple John and Jessica were on their way home from the bar one night and John got pulled over by the police. The officer told John that he was stopped because his tail light was burned out. John said, “I’m very sorry officer, I didn’t realize it was out, I’ll get it fixed right away.”
Just then Jessica said, “I knew this would happen when I told you two days ago to get that light fixed.”
So the officer asked for John’s license and after looking at it said, “Sir your license has expired.”
And again John apologized and mentioned that he didn’t realize that it had expired and would take care of it first thing in the morning.
Jessica said, “I told you a week ago that the they sent you a letter telling you that your license had expired.”
Well by this time, John is a bit upset with his wife contradicting him in front of the officer, and he said in a rather loud voice, “Jessica, shut your mouth!”
The officer then leaned over toward Jessica and asked. “Does your husband always talk to you like that?”
Jessica replied, “only when he’s drunk.”

Rotarians World Wide to Help Save the Rhino
THE plight of the rhino will be taken up by Rotarians worldwide thanks to a resolution at district level motivated by the Rotary Club of Kenton-on-Sea in Cape Town.
With two months of the year still to go, a record number of rhinos have illegally been killed this year in South Africa. Poachers have slaughtered 488 rhinos so far in 2012, surpassing the 448 killed during the whole of 2011. Over half (296) of the rhinos killed were in Kruger National Park.
These horrific figures show the dramatic rise in rhino poaching over the past decade, where just 13 rhinos were killed in South Africa during the whole of 2007. Poaching is carried out by highly organised criminal syndicates, with rhino horn is now reputedly worth more than gold on the black market. The latest South African government figures show that 214 arrests have been made so far this year.
What can we do. Create awareness through our Facebook and club web sites. Start an International Project Aussies For Rhinos and support the Rotray Club of Kenton-on-Sea in Cape Town or contact myself and I will put you in touch with those on the ground in Africa.

The Nun
A cab driver picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and the cab driver won’t stop staring at her.
She asks him why he is staring and he replies, “I have a question to ask you but I don’t want to offend you.”
She answers: “My dear son, you cannot offend me. When you’re as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I’m sure that there’s nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive.”
“Well, I’ve always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me.” She responds,
Well, let’s see what we can do about that: #1, you have to be single and #2 you must be a Catholic.”
The cab driver is very excited and says, “Yes, I am single and I’m Catholic too!”
The nun says, “OK, pull into the next alley.” He does and the nun fulfills his fantasy.
But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying. “My dear child.” said the nun, “Why are you crying?”
“Forgive me sister, but I have sinned. I lied, I must confess, I’m married and a I’m a Baptist.”
The nun says, “That’s OK, I am on the way to a Halloween party, and my name is Kevin.”

POLIO NATIONAL IMMUNISATION DAYS IN INDIA 2013
Hello Folks,
Ever wanted to participate in immunizing children against Polio? Here’s your chance. As some of you already know, the February National Immunization Day (NID) in India may well be the last Indian NID, although regional or Sub-NIDs may continue. The last reported case of polio in India was in January 2010. Because the polio virus may survive for up to 3 years in the environment, it is thought that a country must be absent a case of polio for that period of time to be confirmed as “Polio Free.” In other words, if there are no further cases of polio in India to January 2014 then the NID in February 2013 will be the last needed in India.
I will be leading a team of Rotarians to India in February to participate in the NID. There is room for additional participants. I’d enjoy meeting and getting you know you. If you are interested in joining us, more information is available on our facebook page: Click here –
At your request via private email, I will send you further information regarding the trip and how to join us. The exact NID dates between Feb 4 and Feb 20 are determined by the Indian Government, which have not yet been announced. However, our team will immunize children in the Mewat region, in and around the village of Punhana, South of Delhi. Punhana is the site of the last reported polio case in India. Concurrent with the NID will be visits to Agra/Taj Mahal, Jaipur, flights to Cochin and Chennai and contacts with Rotary clubs, Rotary projects and Rotarians. Side trips are possible to both Kathmandu and Chandigarh.
This may be the last chance to participate in an NID in India. Let me know as soon as possible of your interest. Contact can be made via my address above: Put “India NID” in a personal email. Full details of itinerary, expenses, and other arrangements will be sent to you directly. Serious inquiries only please.
Onward and upward,

Things are starting to wind down for the year, but we do have some important Rotary business to attend to before we break for the silly season. First up is our AGM, which will be held next Monday (12/11) at the Sport and Rec Club (Andrew catering). This is a vitally important meeting for our club, and with a number of us being out of town next week, it’s even more important that as many of us attend as possible. We need to elect our officers and directors for 2013-2014, and we need a quorum to conduct our business. We’re also looking for a few members to put their hand up for some vacancies on the board, specifically Club Administration Director, Service Projects Director, Youth New Generations Director, and
Vocational Services Director. Please let John G. know if you’re interested in one of these positions.
The following week will be a member’s night, featuring Ian Durham. It should be an interesting night. The following Sunday (25/11) will feature our produce and craft markets at the Up-To-Date Store. We have some special entertainment lined up for the day: hay rides through town and live musos. Please save the date, and consider signing up for a slot to help out on the day.
We had a great meeting last night. Our speaker for the night was Georgia Roberts, a youth ambassador for the Red Cross. Georgia (a Coolamon resident and student at TRAC) gave a very good presentation on the need for blood donations, how donated blood is used, and how we can help TRAC meet their goal of having 100 blood donations in their name over the year. Most impressive from such a young speaker! Henk received a “Kransky Award” from the president for his exceptional service in the mission of procuring sausages for the food van at the Scarecrow Festival; if you’re not familiar with the Kransky Award, you need to start coming to meetings! Dick conducted a rousing fine session, as usual, and closed the night out by shouting a bottle of port in honour of his brand-new granddaughter (Rosie Maree), whose birth was announced by a phone call during the meeting.
I’ll be out of town from 10-22 November (visiting the Motherland to participate in a scientific conference and take in a little deer hunting). See you on the other side.
Onward and upward!
Yours in Rotary,
Paul

Monday 19th November Ian Durham Speaker on his journey of life.
On this the 50th anniversary of Interact it gives me great hope for the future to see so many young people who have embraced the idea of Service Above Self. Rotary service means doing your best —not for yourself, but for others. It means achieving as much as you can, to make other people’s lives better. So congratulations Interactors! You all deserve a nice round of Rotary applause.
A man who makes coffins was rushing to deliver a coffin at new Nyanza general hospital mortuary, along the way his car broke down,so he decided to go on foot carrying the coffin on his head.
On reaching Kisumu the Kakamega highway policemen spotted him and decided to rob him of some cash ‘bribe’.
“Omera where are you going ?”.
“I am not happy with where I was buried so I am looking for a better place to relocate.”
The policemen ran away and the man proceeded with his journey.
The Blonde Pilot
A blonde pilot decided she wanted to learn how to fly a helicopter.
She went to the airport, but the only one available was a solo-helicopter. The instructor figured he could let her go up alone since she was already a pilot for small planes and he could instruct her via radio. So, up the blonde went.
She reached 1,000 feet and everything was going smoothly.
She reached 2,000 feet. The blonde and the instructor kept talking via radio. Everything was going smoothly.
At 3,000 feet, the helicopter suddenly came down quickly! It skimmed the top of some trees and crash landed in the woods. The instructor jumped into his Jeep and rushed out to see if the blonde was okay. As he reached the edge of the woods, the blonde was walking out.
“What happened”? the instructor asked. “All was going so well until you reached 3,000 feet. What happened then”?
“Well,” began the blonde. “I got cold, so I turned off the ceiling fan.”
ROTARY INFORMATION
Interact clubs celebrate the program’s golden anniversary
The very first Interact club, formed at Melbourne High School in Melbourne, Florida, USA, is joining Interact clubs and their sponsors around the globe in celebrating the program’s 50th anniversary during World Interact Week, 5-11 November.
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.
Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single gender or mixed, large or small. They can draw from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools in the same community.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of
Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
Advancing international understanding and goodwill
As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact.

From a good friend on ROTI Arthur (Art ) McCullough
Past President Escondido Sunrise RC , in Escondido,California.
Thanks Art.
Dear Friends in Rotary, back in about 2000 a ROTI member in South Africa
was visiting a Rotary friend in his home and as they looked in the man’s
desk they found a small plastic red insert page for a magazine that had a
recording CD that was a copy of a speech the Paul Harris made during the
Rotary convention in 1933. The ROTI member ask on our communication list of
600 members worldwide if anyone might be able to do something with it. I
immediately asked him to send it to me to see if my Son Jeff might be able
to copy the speech and allow us to do something with it. Jeff’s business is
www.musicproducer4hire.com
Jeff was able to spend many hours removing as much static and excess noise
that allowed us to reproduced it onto CD’s to be played later , We were
able to send a copy of the speech to the Rotary history Fellowship so it
is on line on their web site. Another new ROTI member from Northern
California then added visual effects and photos of Paul that make it more
interesting. Here is that video now on youtube ,you can copy and
use it any way you wish so that more Rotarians etc. can see it below:
Monday night being the 5th Monday of the month we had a social gathering at Marilyn and Ian Jennings’s farm “Raywood” about 10 ks out of Coolamon.
Members present were Paul Weston, Leslie Weston, Ian Jennings, Dick Jennings, John Burns, Henk Hulsman, Ian Durham and John Glassford.
Visiting Rotarians PP Roger Quine from Junee RC.
Partners included: Marilyn Jennings, Val Burns, Maree Jennings, Susan Glassford, Maureen Hulsman, Christine Lorraine, friends of Susan and John from Ballarat, Claire and Campbell Mercer as well as the two Italians Enrico and Ricardo, back again.
Our hosts Marilyn and Ian Jennings went to a lot of trouble to prepare for the night and a great time of fellowship, laughter and fun was had by all. All present would like to thank Marilyn and Ian very much for their hospitality and the effort they put in to make it an enjoyable night. I took a few photos but was enjoying the fellowship and friendship to take too many.
Now Roger Quine went to the club house to find NO Rotarains there so Dick went to Coolamoln and guided Roger to Raywood. It was a pleasure to see Roger with us again and we noted how proudly he wore his PHF Sapphire p[in. Thanks for coming Roger!
PRESIDENT PAUL WESTON’S REPORT
It was a relatively quiet week in Rotary World, but maybe it’s just the quiet before the storm. Lots of Rotary-related events are on the cards for the next few weeks, so read through this report and the Diary to find out what’s going one.
First, I want to thank Ian and Marilyn Jennings for a great fellowship meeting at their place on Monday. Great food, great company, and great weather made for a fabulous evening, as judged by the fact that guests were reluctant to leave. Thanks again to Ian and Marilyn (and those who contributed to the feast) for opening their doors and hosting a memorable evening. If only all our meetings were so enjoyable!
Onto the upcoming events (get a pencil and your planner!). First up is the District 9700 AGM in Temora on Sunday, 4 Nov. Next is our weekly meeting on Monday (5 Nov) at the Sport and Rec Club, featuring guest speaker Georgia Roberts from the Australian Red Cross. Catering will be by Gilbert, so please phone the restaurant with apologies. The following day, we’re invited to Junee for their weekly meeting featuring a talks by Chris Wilson from Riverina Blue Bell . Wait, there’s more! On Wednesday, the Kooringal Rotary Club is hosting a sporting challenge at the Wagga Country Club. I have no details on this one, but it does sound intriguing. Don’t forget about Bingo on Thursday (8 Nov); rostered on are John Burns, Henk, Leslie and Paul. If that’s not enough, we have our AGM scheduled for the following Monday (12 Nov). If you’re thinking of serving on one of our board positions, please feel free to put your hand up! We still need to fill the positions of Club Administration Director, Service Projects Director, Youth New Generations Director, and Vocational Services Director.
That should be enough to fill your agenda for now. Hope to see you at some or all of the events on for next week!
Onward and upward!
Yours in Rotary,
Paul

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
The Drunk
A drunk stumbles along a baptismal service on Sunday afternoon down by the river. He proceeds to walk down into the water and stand next to the Preacher.
The minister turns and notices the old drunk and says, “Mister, Are you ready to find Jesus?”
The drunk looks back and says, “Yes, Preacher… I sure am.”
The minister then dunks the fellow under the water and pulls him right back up. “Have you found Jesus?” the preacher asked.
“No, I didn’t!” said the drunk.
The preacher then dunks him under for quite a bit longer, brings him up and says, “Now, brother, have you found Jesus?”
“No, I did not Reverend.”
The preacher in disgust holds the man under for at least 30 seconds this time, brings him out of the water and says in a harsh tone, “My Good man, have you found Jesus yet?”
The old drunk wipes his eyes and asks the preacher… “Are you sure this is where he fell in?”
Another Drunk Joke
This guy is sitting in a bar drunk. He asks the bartender, “Where’s the bathroom at?” The bartender says, “Go down the hall and make a right.”
Well, all of a sudden, everybody at the bar hears this loud scream coming from the bathroom, and they wonder about what’s going on in there. A few minutes go by, and again, everybody at the bar hears another loud scream that came out of the bathroom. This time, the bartender decides to investigate, and he goes into the bathroom to see what the drunk is screaming about.
He opens the door and asks the drunk, “What’s all the screaming about in here? You are scaring all my customers away.”
The drunk whines, “I’m sitting on the toilet and every time I go to flush it, something comes up and squeezes the heck out of my ——-!”
With that, the bartender looks in and says, “No wonder! You’re sitting on a mop bucket, you idiot!!
One for the Ladies
A very inebriated lady walked into a bar shortly before closing time, sat at the bar and ordered, “Barbender, barbender, I would like a Martoutsy.” The bartender brought her a Martini, which she drinks in one gulp.
“Barbender, I would like another Martoutsy”, again the bartender brought her a Martini. By this time the lady is leaning heavily forward, barely able to hang on. She called, “Barbender, your Martoutsys are giving me heartburn.”
Patiently, the bartender came near her and said, “Lady, I am not a barbender, but a bartender, and what you have been drinking is not a Martoutsy, but a Martini, and finally, you do not have heartburn, your chests are hanging in the ashtray.”
ROTARY INFORMATION
In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference on International Organization to draw up the United Nations Charter. Those delegates deliberated on the basis of proposals worked out by the representatives of China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks, United States in August-October 1944.
The Charter was signed on 26 June 1945 by the representatives of the 50 countries. Poland, which was not represented at the Conference, signed it later and became one of the original 51 Member States. The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories. United Nations Day is celebrated on 24 October each year.
Rotary International issued, under the title of “Essentials for an Enduring World Order,” two booklets setting forth articles interpreting the Dumbarton Oaks Proposals. The principal objective was to stimulate discussion by Rotarians everywhere on the newly proposed world organization. Two pamphlets entitled “Pattern for San Francisco” and “The Bretton Woods Proposals” also were sent to all clubs, with the result that the proposals were widely discussed.
At the organization conference of the United Nations held in San Francisco in 1945, the United States delegation invited Rotary International to appoint consultants. Eleven prominent Rotarians served in this capacity with resulting influence on the humane aspects of the Charter. In particular, Article 71 of the United Nations Charter attests this influence:
“The Economic and Social Council may make suitable arrangements for consultation with non-governmental organizations which are concerned with matters within its competence…..”.
