Coolamon Rotary News Bulletin #16

OCTOBER IS ECONOMIC & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MONTH

MEETING OCTOBER 23rd. 2017

There was a good turnout for last nights meeting with 16 members and 6 guests. Neil showed the meeting a copy of Qantas Link on board magazine that Coolamon features in. Coolamon certainly is becoming well know as a great place to visit. Thank you to everyone who put their name down to help at Ronny and Mon Hogg’s clearing sale.

Paul, Daryl and John presented Lucia with some pins and badges for her jacket. She is running out of spots by the look of her jacket, it must be getting heavy. Lucia will be talking about her home town and Germany on the 6th November meeting.

Next weeks meeting and partners night will be held at Howard Atkinson and Ann Bakers home at 56-58 Bruce St 6.30 for a 7pm start. The cost of the night is $25 per person, the price includes pre dinner drinks, you are also welcome to bring your own drinks on the night. Howard and Anne have done an amazing job bring the Convent back to life and it will be interesting to see what they have done.

President Paul Weston will be inducting one of the world’s youngest Rotarians on Monday Night.  Will Cartwright will be joining our club.  The youngest Rotarian that I can find is from Queensland reckone Will wins this one!:

Youngest Rotarian

Dick Jennings was fined for topping the amount of rain received at 39ml

Wayne won the Raffle

Our guest speaker was Joanne Connoley, CSU lecturer and Coolamon resident.

If you are wondering exactly what Joanne is holding……..it’s a platypus! Thanks Joanne for presenting a great talk this evening at The Rotary Club of Coolamon. Joanne Connolly lectures and performs research at CSU School of Animal and Veterinary Science and works with monotremes including the platypus and echidna. This one is actually freeze dried and is called ‘Bill’ having sustained fatal injuries due to a dog or fox. Most people have never seen one up close…. luckily here in the Riverina there are many in the Murrumbidgee River, but numbers across Australia are generally declining.

{Thank you Leslie Weston For the story}.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR ELECT NEWS:

Travelled to Orange for the Orange Daybreak breakfast meeting and spoke on RAGES.  Excellent club with growing numbers and a good mix of gender and age.  Was looked after by President Bob Derrick and Jennifer who hosted Susan and I at the their winery Montoro Wines close to Orange.

While in Orange I bought my DG Jacket navy Blue from St Vinnies $6 Bargain!
