CRC ROTARIAN GARY TRUSCOTT’S STORY

Tonight we had the pleasure of listening to Gary Truscott’s story. (Thanks to Henk for recording Gary’s talk).

Was born in the Jacaranda Hospital in Cronulla NSW, “The Shire”, on 13th February, 1957.

Gary’s mother was from Taree and his father was a fitter and turner with the railroad for 25 years. His father then purchased a couple of trucks and conducted a business in the transport industry. In 1982 he drove his truck to Brisbane and conducted his transport business there.

His father suggested that Gary should find employment with a government department, thereby being sure to have regular employment for the rest of his life.

Gary has a sister in Cairns and a brother in Brisbane.

In 1975 Gary joined the Department of Family & Community Services and enjoyed his work as an auditor, travelling the state for six years. He married his wife, Trish, and took a position in OH&S with the same department. Gary and Trish bought a home in The Shire and brought up their family, two daughters (Hayley and Lauren) and a son (Matt) in the south of Sydney.

Matt  resides in Sydney and employed in the technical side of instrumentation. Daughter Lauren lives in Melbourne. The other, Hayley, joined the police force and met and married Jake Ellis, who  was  also in the force and stationed in Coolamon for a couple of years.  In fact they enjoyed the area so much, they  built a home in Campbell’s Lane, Coolamon. They have three children, two boys and a girl.

Gary and Trish  visited a couple of times and decided Coolamon is a lovely area to live and as grandchildren reside here, they sold their home in Cronulla and bought a home in Dunrobin Street in Coolamon.

The meeting concluded with a fines session by stand in sergeant Ian Jennings and Ian even fined Marilyn!

There were several prizes in the weekly raffle: 1st prize was won by Grahame Miles and other prizes won by Adrian, JJG, Vicki, Do, Leslie and Henk.  Thanks to those who brought along eggs, limes and ANZAC biscuits for prizes.

WORLD POLIO DAY 2023 OCTOBER 24th

Polio outbreak in Ukraine closed – A success story for public health despite extreme challenges of war

Health workers take a wastewater sample at a sewage site near Uzhgorod, Ukraine on 28 February 2023. Wastewater sampling provides a population-wide surveillance system, allowing health workers to monitor large areas and detect the virus even in asymptomatic carriers. Circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) was detected in Ukraine in 2021. Since that time, WHO and partners have been assisting Ukraine to respond to the polio outbreak. Thanks to the concerted efforts of WHO, international partners, national authorities and local communities, no cases of polio have been detected in the country for over a year.

WHO/Europe has declared an outbreak of poliovirus in Ukraine, detected in October 2021, officially closed. The European Regional Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication endorsed the closure of the outbreak during its annual meeting on 8 September 2023. The country has achieved this milestone – stopping transmission of the virus that threatened the lives and futures of its children and preventing spread to other countries – in the face of the ongoing war.

The comprehensive outbreak response, initiated by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in December 2021, faced multiple challenges since the end of February 2022, including massive population displacement, destruction of health-care infrastructure and disruption of logistical routes for medical product deliveries.

“Stopping the spread of poliovirus in the midst of a devastating war is a major achievement and a clear demonstration of the highest level of political commitment of the Government of Ukraine to the welfare of its population,” said Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe.

“In the face of unprecedented challenges, the necessary steps taken by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine to prevent the spread of poliovirus within and beyond the borders of Ukraine are immensely commendable.”

The decision to close the outbreak was based on:

  • the recommendations of a poliovirus outbreak response assessment (OBRA) conducted by Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) partners, including WHO, in May 2023;
  • additional documentation provided by Ukraine in support of the ongoing surveillance, immunization and communication efforts since May; and
  • a comprehensive review of poliovirus surveillance and vaccination performance in the countries hosting the majority of the Ukrainian refugee population.

The outbreak was first detected in a young child in Ukraine in October 2021, following the importation of a poliovirus that had emerged in Pakistan and was previously detected in Tajikistan in 2021. A second child became paralysed in December 2021, and an additional 19 close contacts tested positive without developing symptoms.

“The Ministry of Health of Ukraine declared importation of this poliovirus a local public health emergency, and acted swiftly since its detection in close coordination with the global public health community,” said Dr Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine.

Dr Liashko continued, “The outbreak is now closed, but our work to prevent polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases in Ukraine continues despite all obstacles. As long as polio remains a threat globally, Ukraine will remain vulnerable. The Ministry of Health is committed to strengthening vaccine-preventable disease surveillance and working to achieve and sustain high routine immunization coverage nationwide to protect every child.”

CRC ROTARIAN BARRY LANGTRY’S STORY

Tonight we had the pleasure of listening to Barry’s story.  Barry was well supported by his wife Vicki.  The family settled in the Coolamon area in 1908.  They were share farmers and together and on 400 acres 8 people were able to make a lot of money.  This set the families up with farms in the area.  Barry said that he was related to many people in the area with some 107 cousins on one side and 108 cousins on the other side.

Well known names like Crocker, Jennings, Lewis came up a few times in Barry’s story.  Barry’s father had 6 children.  Barry went to St Michaels school in Coolamon and then to Agricultural College and boarding school in Goulburn.  Barry met Dick Jennings when they went horse riding together and have been mates ever since those days.

Barry was a good rugger player but on returning to Coolamon had to learn Australian Rules where he played for 7 years then bought a farm and played for another 10 years.  Barry married Vicki in 1975 and enjoys working on the farm.  Barry’s son has now taken on the farm and Vicki and Barry have 10 grandchildren.

Barry became very emotional when he recounted how Bill Thompson had saved the farm and they kept going and pulled through.

Vicki and Barry have travelled to Amsterdam, Budapest and the Tiwi Islands.

President John thanked Barry and of course Vicki for their story.

S@A Dick Jennings was in fine form no crutches this week and no one was sparred.

Paul advised us that the winners of the monthly puzzlers were Scott and Mary.

The raffle was won by Adrian with a second prize to Ted.

Another busy and fun night concluded with some good fellowship and a quick board meeting.

Meeting of Monday 25th September 2023

President John Bond welcomed 20 members and one past member, in Bernadette Milne, (so good to see Bernie), to the meeting, another good roll up of members.  Maintaining this level of attendance every week is a great sign of the health of our club.

There was not a lot of business discussed tonight and some of the items included:

  • Telephone Directory – So far we only have 8 of the 18 x 4 pages of the 2018 entries returned from those members that took them home, of which 2 of the 8 have not been phoned as yet.  On Monday 9th meeting we will have an update of the returns to date.  It is important for future charity giving by our club that we get this all done in the next few weeks.
  • Albert advised the meeting that there was a possibility of one garden owner agreeing to have their garden available for next October’s Open Garden Day.  Albert encouraged all of us to come up with potential gardens as soon as possible, as it takes close to a year of planning and work to make this happen.
  • Howard had a story or two to tell on his meetings with Tim Fischer in the past, or two minute Tim, as he was known. Did you know that Tim Fischer used to read his 2 minutes from a piece of paper that Tim had hidden in his hat?
  • Albert then held an information session for the upcoming Gears and Bears Festival.  This included a map that Albert had prepared, which made it easy for the marshals to locate their positions on Sunday morning. In all Albert gave a concise outline in great detail as to what we are expected to do.
  • Gary Truscott and Barry Langtry will be giving their talk on their life histories, Barry on the 9th October and Gary on the 16th of October.
  • John G advised the members present of his 20 years since being introduced to Rotary by Grahame Miles and being inducted on September 28th 2003.

Another good night of friendship and fun concluded with the fines session by “one crutch”, Dick Jennings our S@A, who did a great job of collecting fines and we did like the fine on Albert for giving Dick a sterile potato for the potato growing competition.

The raffle was won by Grahame (1st prize) with secondary prizes of home made salts and garnishes by Lexi, lemons and eggs won by John G, Bear, Albert and Mary.

JUST FOR LAUGHS

The final domesticated Scottish haggis herd to ever exist was raised in the town of Selkirk, nestled in the Scottish Borders. Editor’s note: I lived for 12 months near Selkirk and can confirm that they are very hard to see.

The Puzzler

Answer to the last puzzlers:

  • Riddle: Your tongue tastes better than it smells.
  • Math puzzle: The probability that the remaining marble is also white is 2/3.

This month’s puzzlers:

  • Riddle: How can the number four be half of five?
  • Brain teaser: Four people are crossing a bridge at night, so they all need a torch—but they have only one that lasts for 15 minutes. Alice can cross in one minute, Ben in two minutes, Cindy in five minutes and Don in eight minutes. No more than two people can cross at a time; and when two cross, they have to go at the slower person’s pace. How do they get across in 15 minutes?

WOLLUNDY RC GEARS & BEERS

Sunday October 1st the October Labour day weekend, sees our club involved in the Wollundry Rotary Club’s annual Gears & Beers Festival.  This year Albert Suidgeest was the Chair of the our club’s planning and  volunteers committee.  Albert did a great job in taking over from Daryl Breust, who has done this job over the past few Gears & Beers Festivals.

The volunteers began working the week before on the preparation of the Rotary ANZAC biscuits which are now famous.  These biscuits were baked on the previous day being Saturday 30th September. Thanks to Mary Potts for the photos below:

The event started on time on Sunday morning with the Dirty 130 and the Roadie 115.

Photo above from the Gears & Beers Facebook page.

Our club supplied many volunteers as marshals and especially those partners who volunteered at the half way station in Lions Park.  I will get a list of the volunteers at some stage, thanks to all who played a part in the event this weekend.

Some of the items discussed included:

  • Paul Weston advised the members that the CRC AGM has been set for Monday 20th November with PE Adrian Lindner as Chair.  N.B.  We will need a President Elect Nominee for 2025-2026, this is the hardest position to fill and shouldn’t be.  If you have not yet considered putting your hand up as our President in 2025-2026; now is the time to think about it.  Let Adrian know that you would like to follow his year as our President!
  • Paul suggested that the 5th Monday in October could be a Wagga dinner with 10 pin bowling to follow.
  • Albert Suidgeest reminded us that we need gardens for the October 2024 Open Garden Day.

  • Henk Hulsman reported on the progress of the CRCTB 2023 edition.  Henk asked for those members who still have the 4 sheets, with approx. 20 numbers on each sheet, to call all the numbers on those lists.  If the phone is disconnected to put a line through that entry.
  • Grahame Miles reported on the progress of Neil Munro.  Neil is still in Sydney and is on dialysis at the present time of writing this.  Neil asked on the welfare of our members and Grahame said that Neil was in good spirits and will start chemotherapy following the dialysis,  Neil will then stay at his daughter’s home in Sydney in 2 weeks and is expected home in Coolamon in 4 weeks time.   Members are invited to send Neil a text message. Wishing you a speedy recovery Neil and we do miss you and if there is anything you need, call us!
  • Grahame wanted to alert the members that it took 11 workers to move a few bricks 40cms for the train track in Coolamon:

  • Marrar Madness report given by Bear on Monday night.:

Brian Pattison (that’s not him above), or Bear as he is known to us gave an update on the report on the Marrar Madness weekend.  Brendon from the Marrar Campcraft Association told Bear that there were around 4,000 people attending the weekend.  Brendon thanked Rotary for our support and was very grateful to the volunteers:

Bear, Gary, Albert, Lexi, Ian, Anne, Paul, Henk (with Maureen), Barry, Alex and of course Adrian.

Bear asked for feedback from the volunteers on the event.  Bear then asked that the club donates $200.00 to Bronwyn Halden of Marrar who has lymphoma.

President John Bond thanked Bear for his report as well his thanks to Adrian for his work on the roster.

Some pictures from Marrar Madness taken from Facebook:

Coolamon Rotary Bulletin for September 11th 2023

Meeting of Monday 11th September 2023

President John Bond welcomed 21 members to the meeting another good roll up of members. Keep coming to our meetings and enjoy our fun and friendship.

Some of the items discussed included:

  • Paul gave notice to the members of the board that the next BoD meeting will be at 5.15pm at the Sports Club.
  • Paul gave a run down on the Coolamon Community Chronicle:
    • We need to purchase paper from another supplier at double the cost of the previous supplier.
    • Deadlines fast approaching for the next issue.
  • Brian said the he had a good contact for paper.
  • Adrian and Brian spoke on the upcoming Marrar Madness weekend.  Adrian read out the roster.
  • Albert advised the members that he has booked the Foodworks store for the street raffle on the 14th October.
  • Daryl would like to donate a 3 burner BBQ and hot plate to the club and it comes with it’s own 9kg gas bottle.
  • John Bond reminded us that October has 5 Mondays and called for ideas for a social night on the 5th Monday on October the 30th.
  • Albert reminded us all to start looking for 4 gardens for an Open Garden Day in October 2024.
  • Henk wants all the telephone numbers back on next Monday night with any changes that you have found that need updating.  If you have not been able to call all the numbers that you were given please let us know, thanks.
  • Adrian reported on the Coolamon Landcare tree planting project Trees for Bees or was that a working Bee for Trees?

Marrar Madness report from Adrian a full report will be given by Bear on Monday night.:

Adrian reported via email:  “That the member numbers seemed okay with 4 per shift for late morning (started 10am), mid day and early afternoon. It got busier around 5pm (main events started then) so 2 on car parking and 4 on ticket control was the right number to cope. Ticket control stayed to around 7.15pm when there were very few new customers by then”.  Adrian has since sent an email thanking the following members who worked on the day:

Bear, Gary, Albert, Lexi, Ian, Anne, Paul, Henk (with Maureen), Barry, Alex and of course Adrian.

We had another good meeting of fun and friendship; the evening ended with a spirited fines session by roped in S@A Ian Jennings as S@A Dick is still on crutches.  Ian found a reason to find everyone present.  I forgot who won the raffle!

ROTARY NEWS

WORLD POLIO DAY 2023 OCTOBER 24th.

WORLD POLIO DAY

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.

Our goal

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we’ve reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Explore the history of Rotary and polio eradication

We contribute to the Polio Plus campaign when we award a Paul Harris Fellow or as a direct donation to the Rotary Foundation for Polio Plus.  In 2018-2019 we supported D9700 Ride for Polio around D9700 with a restored Australian Iron Lung:

Coolamon Rotary Bulletin for September 7th 2023

Coolamon Rotary Bulletin for September 11th 2023

Meeting of Monday 4th September 2023

President John Bond welcomed 22 members to the meeting another good roll up of members.

Some of the items discussed included:

  • John Bond said that Paul, Anne and himself had produced and printed the latest edition of the Coolamon Community Chronicle with thanks to Sharon Miles for her input.  The CCC is now out and being distributed.
  • Paul said that the CCC needs more stories to take up the extra 4 pages for the next edition.  The stories would help balance the content, as there are many adverts.  The next edition will have 24 pages instead of 20.
  • Mary advised the meeting that the audits have been completed for our accounts for 2022-2023 with no problems encountered.
  • Henk reported that the Coolamon Rotary Telephone Book 2023 edition needs more work from our members.  Last week John G distributed 4 pages to each member for members to check one any entries from the 2018 book that were no longer in the area.
  • Ian said that he had called 20 entries and found that 7 of the 20 were no longer connected.  Henk suggested that we can start calling the numbers from the 2018 book as provided.  The CRCTB 2023 committee will then collate all the results to be uploaded and or deleted from the current CRCTB 2023 Excel file.
  • Albert spoke on the upcoming Wollundry RC’s Gears and Beers Bike and Beer festival on Sunday October 1st.  Albert is looking for volunteers to measure the ingredients for the ANZAC biscuits on Saturday 23rd September.  The cooking of the biscuits will be held on Saturday 30th September.  Please contact Albert as to your availability.
  • Albert also spoke about the potato growing competition and handed out more seed potatoes at $5.00 each for those who want to grow spuds!  The prize for the best/largest spud will win the pool of  cash.  No cheating will be allowed!
  • John Bond asked the members present to consider volunteering for the Red Faces committee.  So far John B is the Chair and Mary, Anne and Paul are on the committee.  John B would like us to consider the following:
    • The committee will work out the feasibility of Red Faces and some items to be considered include:
      • A panel of judges
      • Who would be invited to participate
      • Advertising for the event.
      • Raffles, venue and entry fees.
      • Ideas are needed from all of our members.
  • Albert suggested that we have a street raffle and will help to organise a suitable day.  Albert suggested a $100 fuel voucher as the prize on the day.  Venue to be outside Foodworks.  Thank you Albert.
  • Albert also suggested that if we are going to hold an Open Garden day in 2024, that we should be planning for that event 12 months ahead of time i.e. now.  The Open Garden Committee has the following members alongside Albert:  Brian (Bear), John B, Anne, Lexi and Barry.
  • Grahame reminded members of the upcoming Rotaract Wagga Wagga Trivia Night.  It is on Saturday 23rd September at the North Wagga Community Hall 6.00 for 6.30pm $25 per head.  Contact Grahame Miles or Garth Perkin for details.  We need a table of 8 to make it worthwhile at $175 per table.
  • Ian called for volunteers for this Saturday 9th July to help Coolamon Landcare with tree planting to be held at 9.30am in the Wetlands.

We had a good meeting of friendship and the evening ended with a spirited fines session by Cpl Garth with some help from our S@A Dick who was on crutches following his recent knee surgery.  Welcome back Dick!

The raffle was won by Mary.

7 AREAS OF FOCUS

The Trustees of The Rotary Foundation have identified seven areas of focus for Global Grants. These areas reflect critical humanitarian issues and needs that Rotarians are addressing worldwide. They will align Rotary with other international development efforts and will strategically further the mission of The Rotary Foundation.

STATEMENTS OF PURPOSE AND GOALS

Each of the seven areas of focus begins with a statement of purpose, followed by a list of specific goals. The Rotary Foundation will use the goals to establish:

  • Projects and activities for global grants
  • Possible strategic partners for global grants
  • Evaluation criteria for club- and district-developed global grants
  • A system for measuring outcome for all global grants

AREAS OF FOCUS

  1. Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention
  2. Disease Prevention and Treatment
  3. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene
  4. Maternal and Child Health

3. REGIONALSATION PILOT ZONE 8

Our current governance structure is 70 years old. It has not adapted to the needs of today or tomorrow. In 2018, the Rotary Board of Directors tasked the Shaping Rotary’s Future (SRF) Committee with developing an innovative plan to enhance the current membership experience, improve our ability to adapt, and create an organisational structure that attracts and engages new participants for generations to come.

  • Identify at the regional and district level the 10-30 clubs that would form a section.

  • Establish who will be section leaders.

  • Districts continue to exist, but essentially as a shelf entity under the stewardship of the last district governor covering remaining essentials until eventually all district functions are taken over by the region.

  • The Regional Council is fully operational.

  • To help clubs and members spend more time on meaningful volunteering, the proposed pilot updates district-level positions to offer more skills-focused volunteer leadership roles, as well as governance updates to make those roles more accessible and centralise shared administration responsibilities currently shouldered by each district.

Regional Council Election

Club Presidents will consult with their members, then submit a vote on behalf of their club once voting opens in October 2023. All clubs will be able to cast one vote for each Regional Council position they are eligible to vote for, with each vote being weighted equally regardless of club membership numbers.

Club Presidents and Secretaries will receive emails closer to the date with voting instructions.

Governance across the zone will be overseen by a Regional Council elected by clubs. The Regional Council will be led by a Chair who will be supported by a Chair-Elect, with each serving two-year terms.

As Rotarians and Rotaractors of Rotary Districts participating in the Regionalisation Pilot, you will soon be able to apply for the Regional Council positions of Chair, Chair-Elect and Portfolio Leads. Only Rotaractors can apply to be the Rotaract Nominee. The role descriptions for these positions are now available on the Creating Tomorrow website.

Rotary and Rotaract clubs and members are at the heart of the Regionalisation Pilot. You are the ones who make a difference in your communities everyday and attract people to Rotary and Rotaract. The Pilot’s main goal is to find ways to more effectively and efficiently support you and your club to increase impact, grow membership, and adapt to changing volunteer needs and expectations.

We encourage you to actively discuss this opportunity in your club.

MEMBERSHIP AND RETENTION SOME IDEAS

ROTARY D5580 10 tips TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN MEMBERS.

Membership our lifeblood and our future.  We need to attract new members and at teh same time retain our current members.  This is a story form D5580 with 10 useful tips on how to attract and retain members.

Submitted by: Donald R. Cavalier, PDG, District Membership Chairperson
Give your potential members a meaningful Rotary experience by offering the opportunities to make a positive difference and connect with others in our communities and throughout the world.  They’ll make valuable friendships and feel good about Rotary and the work we’re doing to make the world a better place.  Remember, you have to “ASK”! and Follow-Up.

Make recruiting the top priority of your club. You can’t do everything as a club president, and knowing that will give you some freedom to focus on the most important thing.  Having new members – with new energy – will help you have more people to raise money for The Rotary Foundation, serve on your committees, and invite additional members/more smiling faces to your meetings and fun events. Let your members know this is the TOP priority so they can all help. Remember to appoint a Membership Chairperson for your club to help you be successful.

Know your club’s strengths.  Friendship, Service Above Self, projects, Club Strategic Plan, inclusion, volunteerism, Personal Growth, Leadership Development, “fun”, Family Programs, Development of Ethics, Cultural Awareness, the opportunities to serve.

Meeting of Monday 14th August

President John Bond welcomed 21 members and our guest speakers from Wollundry Rotary Club:  Phil McIntosh, David Byfield, Peter Crozier and Phil Burgess.

John Bond then spoke about the volunteers required for this Saturday’s Ganmain Show as parking attendants.  Adrian Lindner has it covered with 12 volunteers.

Marrar Madness Bear Brian Pattison spoke on what we will need and again Adrian has a list for volunteers going around for members.

Mary Post advised the meeting that Mary had visited Neil Munro in hospital and Neil sends his regards to all of us.  Neil is undergoing dialysis at the moment prior to treatment for his blood disorder.  Neil loves all the cards and wishes from members.

Ian Jennings reported that Dick was having both knees replaced.

Henk Hulsman requested that all the 2018 telephone books be returned by the 21st August meeting with indications as to who is not around or have moved.

Paul Weston advised all board members of the next Board meeting to be held at 5.15pm on Monday 21st at the Sports Club.

Gears and Beers by Phil McIntosh Wollundry RC.

Phil gave us the details for the upcoming Gears & Beers weekend, Saturday 30th September-Sunday 1st October.

Modern technology let us down tonight so Phil’s talk was verbal and an excellent outline of what we will be doing on Sunday 1st October.  Phil started by thanking Adrian Lindner for the use of his canola paddocks for the 2022 Gears & Beers event.  Phil said it was an outstanding way to introduce city folk to the country life.

Phil went on to say how much the riders appreciated the Coolamon hospitality and especially the legendary ANZAC biscuits.  The contribution from Coolamon is immense and so much appreciated by Phil and his committee.

Phil gave us more information for Albert Suidgeest and Bear Brian Pattison and their committee.  Daryl Breust will be in Europe for this year’s Gears & Beers.  However it is in good hands.

The main event the Dirty 130 leaves Wagga at 7.00am on Sunday 1st October and will be in Coolamon by 9.00am.  This year they will be coming in from a different direction.  The routes are available here on the Gears & Bears website:

Gears & Beers October 1st 2023

Phil went on to say that the Dirty 130 is not a race and that they work on ideas like the canola crop as a way of local community attractions.  This generated a couple of responses from the members including Ian Jennings suggesting that one such attraction would be Barry Langtry’s machinery shed.  Bruce Hamilton offered a mob of sheep to ride through if they went further South next time.

Phil then said that the 115km ride will be going via Marrar and expected in Coolamon at 9.15am.  Phil encouraged us to have plenty of colourful bunting in Lions Park and create a festival like atmosphere.  Phil concluded by saying that the entries are down this year however they hope to reach 2,000 riders.

President John Bond thanked Phil and Wollundry Rotary Club and guaranteed that we would be there on Sunday October 1st.

S@A Garth Perkin held a short impromptu fines session and the raffle was won by Craig Lambert.

Corporate Social Responsibility Grants

This is an exciting new way to get a grant from our Foundation in conjunction with a corporate sponsor.

https://www.rotaryfoundationaustralia.org.au/csrgrants

CSR Grants provide a straightforward way for corporations to engage with Rotary in the delivery of mutually agreed outcomes.

For example, if a corporation has a focus on making a difference in the education of children in indigenous communities, chances are there’s a Rotary club that will have very similar aspirations—along with the ‘feet on the ground’ to bring the project to life.

In other cases, an Australian Rotary club may, as an example, be looking for funding for a project that will deliver outstanding outcomes in the growth of small businesses in a country where the corporation is doing business. Rotary’s network of over 35,000 clubs, in almost every country in the world, can help make this possible.
