Last meeting for the 2012 year was our annual Christmas party held at the home of President Paul Weston and Leslie Weston.
Leslie and Paul put in a huge effort to make it a memorable evening and we all enjoyed some wonderful fellowship with our partners and guests. The food was plentiful and the prawns were delicious. President Paul thanked everyone for attending and wished us all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Thank you Leslie and Paul for opening up your home to all of us and for the warm and generous hospitality.
Ian Durham kindly took some photos of the night, thanks Ian and here they are:
We closed out the calendar year in fine fashion with a memorable Christmas party at the home of Paul and Leslie Weston. A total of 31 Rotarians and guests enjoyed a range of tasty nibblies prepared mostly by members and mains of turkey and barbecued pork loin plus a variety of salads and sides. A final course of yummy desserts rounded out the evening, but attendees lingered until late, engaged in conversation and enjoying fellowship and the delightful weather. The effort was well worth it, judging from the outcome. I’d like to send special recognition to Leslie for her efforts in making preparations for the event.
It’s hard to believe my year at the helm is halfway over, but I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and look forward to productive follow-ups in the next 6 months. I truly appreciate the selfless contributions of our hard-working members, which is the engine that drives all of our productivity. I extend the best holiday wishes to you and your loved ones for Christmas and into the new year.
Yours in Rotary,
Paul

Saint Nicholas is on his way form North Africa with your presents!
The Rotary world is in mourning after the tragic deaths of health workers in Pakistan. These courageous people were committed to stopping the transmission of the polio virus and to saving children’s lives, and for their brave and heroic efforts they will never be forgotten. On behalf of all Rotarians, I wish to express my sincere condolences to their families.
Please take a moment to read Rotary’s official statement on this matter: http://bit.ly/UdswMX
Please, voice your support of the fight against polio, until no child is in danger.
Thank you.
Amish Elevator
Amish elevator.. The boy asked, ‘What is this Father?’
The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, ‘Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don’t know what it is.’ While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order.
Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out.
The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son…..’Go get your Mother’

Uplifting story:
One of the best parts of being a Rotarian is that you are always welcome in any club in any country or in your own country. This week we traveled to Perth and made up the meeting with the Rotary Club of Fremantle. One of the traditions is to exchange our respective club banners as a reminder of our visit.
The hospitality received on visiting another Rotary club is always exceptional and one immediately feels like part of the family. The Rotary Club of Fremantle is no exception, a good club with a good mix of members and they are doing some wonderful work in the community of Fremantle.
Monday night was a social night at the club and we had 10 members attend. We discussed many and varied items and had a great night finishing late.
Grahame Miles reported on the Rotary Sunday Markets apart from the heat Grahame said that we had 30 vendors stands and a good role up of visitors.
President Paul thanked all who volunteered on the day.
It got too hot for the chocolate factory as the delicious strawberries in white chocolate melted and they had to pack up their stand.
Next meeting on Monday 3rd December will be our last meeting for 2012 and it is also a board meeting.

Just a reminder that this Saturday is World AIDS Day 2012. We have sent out our lunch bag for everyone to support the lunch money on World AIDS Day 2012. So far we have received around $1,550. Thank you to all who have contributed so far.
If you did not receive a lunch bag you can go directly to our web site and donate on line:
The funds raised will be going to Nairobi and Hout Bay in support of our projects there.
Thank You.

BEST DIVORCE LETTER EVER
Dear Wife,
I’m writing you this letter to tell you that I’m leaving you forever. I’ve been a good man to you for 7 years & I have nothing to show for it. These last 2 weeks have been hell. … Your boss called to tell me that you quit your job today & that was the last straw. Last week, you came home & didn’t even notice I had a new haircut, had cooked your favorite meal & even wore a brand new pair of silk boxers. You ate in 2 minutes, & went straight to sleep after watching all of your soaps. You don’t tell me you love me anymore; you don’t want sex or anything that connects us as husband & wife. Either you’re cheating on me or you don’t love me anymore; whatever the case, I’m gone.
Your EX-Husband
P.S. don’t try to find me. Your SISTER & I are moving away to Tasmania together! Have a great life!
Dear Ex-Husband
Nothing has made my day more than receiving your letter. It’s true you & I have been married for 7 years, although a good man is a far cry from what you’ve been. I watch my soaps so much because they drown out your constant whining & griping Too bad that doesn’t work. I DID notice when you got a hair cut last week, but the 1st thing that came to mind was ‘You look just like a girl!’ Since my mother raised me not to say anything if you can’t say something nice, I didn’t comment. And when you cooked my favorite meal, you must have gotten me confused with MY SISTER, because I stopped eating pork 7 years ago. About those new silk boxers: I turned away from you because the $49.99 price tag was still on them, & I prayed it was a coincidence that my sister had just borrowed $50 from me that morning. After all of this, I still loved you & felt we could work it out. So when I hit the lotto for 10 million dollars, I quit my job & bought us 2 tickets to Jamaica But when I got home you were gone.. Everything happens for a reason, I guess. I hope you have the fulfilling life you always wanted. My lawyer said that the letter you wrote ensures you won’t get a penny from me. So take care.
Signed, Your Ex-Wife, Rich As Hell & Free!
P.S. I don’t know if I ever told you this, but my sister Carla was born Carl. I hope that’s not a problem.

Back from my trip to the US, a bit tired, but very satisfied. I accomplished all I had hoped to, and saw everyone on my list. Attached is a picture of me exchanging banners with Shelly Bullock, president of the Rotary Club of Trumansburg, NY. Their club is a similar size to ours, but a bit more diverse in age range (the oldest is in their 60s, and the youngest is in their 30s, I reckon.
Monday night was a quiet social night and we had dinner at the Coolamon Hotel.
We discussed many and varied subjects but uppermost was how do we attract new members to our club.
Most important is to all help in one way or the other on our Market Day coming up this Sunday. There are over 30 stalls booked and it should be a sunny but hot day.
We confirmed that our Christmas Party will be held on Friday 21st December at President Paul and Leslie’s home.
All members are asked to assist the running of the markets and volunteers are called for so far we have:
John Glassford, Paul Weston 8.30am -11.00am
Ian Durham, Ian Jennings and John Burns 11.00am-1.00pm

PP Mark Janetzki Henty and PP Mick Feuilherade in Hout Bay last December.
President Peter Dutton from our Centennial twin Club writes with some sad news of the passing of Past President Mick Feuilherade last Monday in Cape Town. Several of us at Coolamon and fellow travelers to Africa met and knew Mick a gentleman with a great sense of humour. All of us here in Coolamon send our condolences to Anne and his family alongside his family in Rotary. I know that Hout Bay will miss him greatly,
“He was a special Rotarian and a special human being. Always ready to step in where needed and looking out for the less fortunate in our community. Not a Rotarian in name only but a solid and dependable contributor of his time and experience.” President Peter Dutton.

Aussie Driver
An Aussie couple John and Jessica were on their way home from the bar one night and John got pulled over by the police. The officer told John that he was stopped because his tail light was burned out. John said, “I’m very sorry officer, I didn’t realize it was out, I’ll get it fixed right away.”
Just then Jessica said, “I knew this would happen when I told you two days ago to get that light fixed.”
So the officer asked for John’s license and after looking at it said, “Sir your license has expired.”
And again John apologized and mentioned that he didn’t realize that it had expired and would take care of it first thing in the morning.
Jessica said, “I told you a week ago that the they sent you a letter telling you that your license had expired.”
Well by this time, John is a bit upset with his wife contradicting him in front of the officer, and he said in a rather loud voice, “Jessica, shut your mouth!”
The officer then leaned over toward Jessica and asked. “Does your husband always talk to you like that?”
Jessica replied, “only when he’s drunk.”

THE plight of the rhino will be taken up by Rotarians worldwide thanks to a resolution at district level motivated by the Rotary Club of Kenton-on-Sea in Cape Town.
Past President Bruce Steele-Gray
With two months of the year still to go, a record number of rhinos have illegally been killed this year in South Africa. Poachers have slaughtered 488 rhinos so far in 2012, surpassing the 448 killed during the whole of 2011. Over half (296) of the rhinos killed were in Kruger National Park.
These horrific figures show the dramatic rise in rhino poaching over the past decade, where just 13 rhinos were killed in South Africa during the whole of 2007. Poaching is carried out by highly organised criminal syndicates, with rhino horn is now reputedly worth more than gold on the black market. The latest South African government figures show that 214 arrests have been made so far this year.
What can we do. Create awareness through our Facebook and club web sites. Start an International Project Aussies For Rhinos and support the Rotray Club of Kenton-on-Sea in Cape Town or contact myself and I will put you in touch with those on the ground in Africa.

The Nun
A cab driver picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and the cab driver won’t stop staring at her.
She asks him why he is staring and he replies, “I have a question to ask you but I don’t want to offend you.”
She answers: “My dear son, you cannot offend me. When you’re as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I’m sure that there’s nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive.”
“Well, I’ve always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me.” She responds,
Well, let’s see what we can do about that: #1, you have to be single and #2 you must be a Catholic.”
The cab driver is very excited and says, “Yes, I am single and I’m Catholic too!”
The nun says, “OK, pull into the next alley.” He does and the nun fulfills his fantasy.
But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying. “My dear child.” said the nun, “Why are you crying?”
“Forgive me sister, but I have sinned. I lied, I must confess, I’m married and a I’m a Baptist.”
The nun says, “That’s OK, I am on the way to a Halloween party, and my name is Kevin.”
Hello Folks,
Ever wanted to participate in immunizing children against Polio? Here’s your chance. As some of you already know, the February National Immunization Day (NID) in India may well be the last Indian NID, although regional or Sub-NIDs may continue. The last reported case of polio in India was in January 2010. Because the polio virus may survive for up to 3 years in the environment, it is thought that a country must be absent a case of polio for that period of time to be confirmed as “Polio Free.” In other words, if there are no further cases of polio in India to January 2014 then the NID in February 2013 will be the last needed in India.
I will be leading a team of Rotarians to India in February to participate in the NID. There is room for additional participants. I’d enjoy meeting and getting you know you. If you are interested in joining us, more information is available on our facebook page: Click here –
At your request via private email, I will send you further information regarding the trip and how to join us. The exact NID dates between Feb 4 and Feb 20 are determined by the Indian Government, which have not yet been announced. However, our team will immunize children in the Mewat region, in and around the village of Punhana, South of Delhi. Punhana is the site of the last reported polio case in India. Concurrent with the NID will be visits to Agra/Taj Mahal, Jaipur, flights to Cochin and Chennai and contacts with Rotary clubs, Rotary projects and Rotarians. Side trips are possible to both Kathmandu and Chandigarh.
This may be the last chance to participate in an NID in India. Let me know as soon as possible of your interest. Contact can be made via my address above: Put “India NID” in a personal email. Full details of itinerary, expenses, and other arrangements will be sent to you directly. Serious inquiries only please.
Onward and upward,

THANK YOU Jon Deisher for the story and the photos hope it inspires some Aussies to join your team in India next year.
