RYDA Week in Wagga Wagga

ROTARY YOUTH DRIVER AWARENESS

This week RYDA was held at the Eqex centre in Wagga wagga with many year 11 students attending from all around Wagga wagga some as far as away as Culcairn.  It was our duty to look after the Coolamon Central School students last Friday.  Ian Jennings, Paul Weston and John Glassford from our club volunteered their day to act as stewards for the 6 element course provided by Rotary to our high school students.  Jason Sachs also form our club was the teacher in charge of the students form the Coolamon Central School.

It was an excellent day and growing from strength to strength.  here are some photos from the day:

Past President George Hutcheon PHF

Our Rotary Club lost a great member this week in Past President George Hutcheon Paul Harris Fellow.  George was a founding member of our club some 40 years ago now.  We will miss George a lot and we all send our condolences and best wishes to Freda Hutcheon and all the many members of George’s family.  More details on George’s life will be posted next week.  In the mean time here is a photo of one of the last times George attended one of our meetings, it was our 40th Birthday Party in May this year.

God speed George and thank you for your company and friendship.

Stand by me/Playing for change/Song around the world

“All of us in Rotary are looking to change the world – why else would we be Rotarians? We believe that our world can be happier, healthier, and more peaceful, and that we can create that better world through our service…….We must understand that true change can only begin with each of us, and start within us. We cannot share peace with others if we do not have it to give. We cannot look after the whole world without first looking after those closest to us: our families, our clubs, and our communities.”

Change Over Dinner 29 July 2011

PDG Fred Loneragan presents President Marg Perkin with her President's scarf, while PDG John Egan looks on after Marg's induction.

We are the last club in our district to hold the annual change over of presidents and board members.  It was great night and we had a total of 45 people present to witness the changing of the guard for 2011-2012.  Our new president is Marg Perkin who has been in our club since 2004.  Marg is the first lady to become our president and we are all looking forward to a great year under Marg’s leadership.

Here are some photos from the evening held in Coolamon.

Coolamon Village Toilet?

While sitting in freezing cold conditions selling raffle tickets today the need arose for a WC in the village, the nearest is a long walk to the station.  Maybe we can convince our Council that we do need a WC in the middle of the village.  After all it was one of Rotary’s first community service in Chicago back in 1907:

“The Rotary Club of Chicago performs one of its first acts of community service. The club calls a meeting of civic organizations to establish a committee for installing city comfort stations, or public toilets, to improve sanitation.”

Coolamon Raffle

This week we started the new Rotary year with a street raffle in Coolamon.

It was a very cold windy cloudless morning and we were kept very busy.

Thanks to Henk Hulsman, Craig Corrigan, John Glassford, Dick Jennings, Ian Durham and Madison Durham for selling the tickets.

The proceeds go to our charity account.

Induction of Jason Sachs to Rotary

Rotarian Jason Sachs with President Ian Durham

Last night at our weekly meeting we had the pleasure of welcoming Jason Sachs to our Rotary club.  Jason’s vocation is teaching and he has a young family and is head teacher at the Coolamon Central School.  Jason’s classification is Head Teacher and will join Leslie Weston on the New Generations committee.  We will be engaging the youth of our area in the coming years through our wonderful programmes like RYDA and MUNA.  Grahame Miles will mentor Jason and teach Jason all he knows about Rotary.

We all look forward to enjoying Jason’s company over the coming years.  Welcome Jason!

Farewell to Max Chapman

FAREWELL TO PAST PRESIDENT MAX CHAPMAN P.H.F.

Max has been a loyal and hard working member of Coolamon Rotary for 19 years now.  Max joined our club on the 1st July 1992.  Max and Sue Chapman have now moved to Wagga Wagga and started a new business there.  Rotary has not lost Max as he is joining the Wagga Wagga Sunrise Rotary Club on Tuesday 21st June.

We will miss Max and Sue Chapman.  Over the years Max has held just about every position in our club and was President in 2002-2003.

Max and Sue often held open garden days at their farm “Kiambo” which raised many thousands of dollars for various Rotary projects including Shelterbox.  Here are just a few photos:

WE WILL MISS YOU MAX AND SUE YOU WILL BE WELCOME BACK AT OUR CLUB ANYTIME!
